Aten Reign, James Turrell

There are some artists that I always think of as painters, even though they don't paint. Or maybe not as painters but as artists who think like painters. James Turrell is one. Maybe its his engagement in color, maybe its the feeling I get that I should view from a very specific vantage point, or that I be still, like I am in front of a Rembrandt to wait as the work unfolds. Turrell's installation at the Guggenheim is no exception, it reveals and blossoms and envelopes you. It's hard to leave. Go.
