Christine Frerichs at Gallery KM
Christine Frerichs surfaces warrant careful examination. I'm most interested in understanding how they're made. Each canvas has an underlying radiating figure eight that is then layered upon through a variety of strategies. Ellen Caldwell blogs about Frerichs recent show Conversations at Gallery KM for New American Painting.
some of the show’s connection lies in the details: figure eights emanate from the center of each painting, and they are positioned at just a height so that visitors’ belly buttons line up with the very center of the paintings (and of the figure eight), making visitors’ eye levels line up with the center of the top circle of the elliptical shapes underlying each painting.
