Wunderblock, Katharina Grosse

Katharina Grosse new site specific project, Wunderblock, was commissioned by the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas.  While her work is well known in Europe (see my post on her exhibition in the Netherlands), Grosse has only recently been making her signature large-scale works in the U.S. Most recently she did a project for Mass MOCA. I'm hopeful the project for the Nasher indicates a greater visibility for her work.  Erin Joyce reviewed the show for Hyperallergic and interviewed Catherine Craft, adjutant assistant curator for research and exhibitions.

“I really don’t think these things are sculpture,” says Craft. “They act like sculpture, or take up sculpture’s space, but they still very much come out of Grosse’s concerns and passions as a painter.”
