Julia Morrisroe is a painter and associate professor at University of Florida. Looking at Painting began as a way to share my commitment to look and occasionally write about a wide variety of painting, contemporary and historical. In particular I'm looking at this as public commonplace book, a long term project to explore what I mean when I say 'thats a painting'.
My studio work juliamorrisroe.com
Twenty-five paintings by the late Michel Majerus just opened at Matthew Marks. Expanding and inventing beyond 1980's appropriation, Majerus was just getting started. His studio is still maintained and occasionally opened to the public by his Berlin gallery, so thats worth checking in to if you'll be in the area. Majerus worked in such a wide range of materials and processes, I wish Matthew Marks exhibition showed more of the breadth of his work.
