Jus Juchtmans at Margaret Thatcher

Jus Juchtmans works with layers of acrylic and acrylic gel medium stretched atop one another, creating an illusionary sense of space. Color Virus at Margaret Thatcher Projects is his most recent exhibition and this work takes great advantage of the reflective quality of the material.

Juchtmans has a manifesto of sorts on his website, I think its the result of a conversation with Peter Theuynck in 1999, but the Dutch translation is a little rough.

2.3.3 Reflection is to reason (experience, the knowledge of certain materials) and to feel (sensations, sensibilities, memories).2.3.4 Painting in layers is like playing chess: afer each move of the painter, a move of the matter follows, and then another move of the painter.  more
