Julia Morrisroe is a painter and associate professor at University of Florida. Looking at Painting began as a way to share my commitment to look and occasionally write about a wide variety of painting, contemporary and historical. In particular I'm looking at this as public commonplace book, a long term project to explore what I mean when I say 'thats a painting'.

Simon Starling's Blue, Red, Yellow, Djungel was installed at the Kröller-Müller Museum. I went there to look at their van Gogh collection, which I'll post tomorrow. The work is an enormous replica of a famous design by Josef Frank who designed hundreds of bold colorful textiles while working at the Swedish studio Svenskt Tenn. Starling's installation includes all the materials needed to make the curtain including the tree cut down to make the woodblocks, the work tables and the pots of paint.
