Julia Morrisroe is a painter and associate professor at University of Florida. Looking at Painting began as a way to share my commitment to look and occasionally write about a wide variety of painting, contemporary and historical. In particular I'm looking at this as public commonplace book, a long term project to explore what I mean when I say 'thats a painting'.

Steve Turner Gallery presented sixteen marker, color pencil and ink works on paper by the inventive Laylah Ali at the Untitled Art Fair in Miami. Art21 interviewed Ali in one of their earliest seasons. Ali discussed her collection of hands and body gestures that she clips from newspaper photos. She kept them in envelopes to use when needed. It was a marvelous window into her archive and continues to influence how I think about the artistic process.
