This show dates all the way back to May but I really want to share the work. I can't really avoid my Chicago Imagist roots, not that Wood comes from this tradition....but I love the flattened space of early christian iconography when paired with saturated colors. This show was at David Kordansky in Los Angeles. Wood is at his best when he's painting interiors, he uses a space and color palette that evoke Jacob Lawrence's later construction paintings mashed with a little Matisse, a little Hockney and a little Leipzig school. There are more images at the Kordanskys website and at Contemporary Art Daily where I first saw the work.
