Natalie Frank, Praying in Bed
A painters painter is always subjective, is there really one type of painter that appeals to all types of painters? Or does merely slinging a lot of viscous goo about on the canvas make all painters happy? Who knows, but Natalie Frank is referred to as a painters painter. I like her as a story teller at a time when its difficult to tell stories in paint. I like her as a colorist who isn't afraid of the full range of chroma at her disposal. Jonathan Beer writes about her new show, The Governed and the Governors at Fredericks & Freiser Gallery and visits her Brooklyn studio in Unwritten Spaces for art-rated.
