Ellen Altfest paints from direct observation in natural light and refers to her work as a quest for knowledge in a certain way

Randy Kennedy reviews Altfests work and includes a photo essay of her project to paint a dead section of a tree which took 13 months of work out of doors. I haven't been able to find an image of the tree piece installed in venice, but here are some examples of her work.
