XXXL Painting, Rotterdam
This is the 5th summer that an artist has been invited to create a project for the Submarine Wharf at the Port of Rotterdam. XXXL Painting was the exhibition was created by Klaas Kloosterboer, Chris Martin and Jim Shaw for the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. Andre Alessi reviews the exhibition for ArtSlant writes
Three artists, occupying roughly one room (of aircraft hangar dimensions) each, match the space’s challenges while representing several strains in contemporary painting. Jim Shaw uses figuration to create worlds and tell stories; Chris Martin revisits a more spiritual side of art making; and Klaas Kloosterboer questions what a painting is and how it should behave.
