These are a few of the Art Institute's European modernist paintings that kept me thinking when I was younger. This first painting, the Hodler, remains one of the more curious paintings that has stuck in my memory. I never really became a fan of Hodler's work or studied him depth, but the color in this portrait is just otherworldly.
