Sato Naoki's installation of drawings at
3331 Arts Chiyoda "Unexplored Tokyo: There, It Has Grown" featured rooms full of charcoal on panel drawings. Channeling Thomas Hart Benton, Georgia O'Keefe and Henri Rousseau Naoki's forest of simplified forms is impermeable and luscious. Check out the details, the marks are quick and light with a rich value range and texture. This unorganized chaotic forest seems like a visit to the Florida everglades while the group of "Plants Standing" drawings are more familiar to the harmonious gardens I've been visiting.
